Electrotherapy

iStock_000017762747_SmallElectrotherapy is therapeutic current that is applied to an area of pain, injury, inflammation or dysfunction. The application of the therapeutic current reduces pain by blocking the conduction of pain along the nerves that transmit pain in the nervous system and by releasing the body’s natural painkilling chemicals. Use of electrotherapy increases blood flow and circulation to flush away injury debris (which causes local swelling and inflammation) and promotes healing (by bringing in oxygen rich blood and specific blood cells required to address injured tissue). Electrotherapy also reduces muscle tightness and promotes normal tone, strength and function.

Therapeutic electrical currents are used by our chiropractors at Active Chiropractic & Massage Therapy as an adjunct to treatment. Ultrasound, Interferential Current (IFC), Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) and microcurrent are the electrotherapy currents Dr. Emmalee and Dr. Tricia use to speed healing.

Our chiropractors also offer Intermittent Traction on an original Hill Traction Table. Traction is used to assist disc injuries, sciatica, joint irritation and nerve impingement.
